Direct North
“Supporting local theatremakers ensures that the local ecology continues to evolve and thrive”

A network for emerging theatre directors in the North
Direct North was a network for emerging theatre directors in the North of England, supported by local theatres.
Born here, live here, or passing through, we believe that connecting people generates support and opportunity. Together, we aim to coordinate peer-led workshops, masterclasses and events in the North West and further afield to empower another generation of directors to try new things, meet new people and learn from experienced theatremakers throughout the year.
Direct North was set up by a small group of young directors and producers (Holly Race Roughan, Charlotte Mountford, Adam Quayle and Hannah Tyrrell-Pinder) with advice from local theatres (Royal Exchange, Lowry, Bolton Octagon and Library Theatre) in response to a discussion at the Talking Shop Open Space event at the Re:Play Festival 2013 about the need for a network for young and emerging theatre directors in the North West and North. Direct North was born in April 2013.
