My Arms Tour 3

Warm festive-filled greetings! Or should we say “Merry Quizmas”?

We hope the mulled wine is brewing and you’re all gearing up for the Christmas party season. Here at Box of Tricks HQ, we barely have time to sip our hot toddy as we prepare for the forthcoming season kicking off with our Quizmas Party next week. Yes, that’s right: Quizmas time, mistletoe and wine… It’s next Thursday from 7pm at Cord Bar in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. Full details online – book now!
This follows hot on the heels of our recent Picture a City project in collaboration with the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse. We platformed the talents of five local writers – Lizzie Nunnery, Luke Barnes, Laurence Wilson, Ella Greenhill, Sarah McDonald Hughes – to great success. Check out details and the images that inspired their snapshot plays at: http://pictureacity.posterous.com. No rest for the wicked in the New Year as January brings us James Leach’s My Arms at the Lowry Studio from 24-26 January. Following the huge success at this year’s 24:7 Festival, the production has been invited to be part of the Library Theatre’s re:play Festival. You can book tickets here. This takes us into early spring with the return of our ever-popular short play initiative Word:Play, this time Arts Council-funded in a cross-regional collaboration with the Octagon Theatre and Bike Shed Theatre, Exeter.  Following the critically-acclaimed, sell-out success of previous cycles, we’re championing the next generation of playwriting talent in the North West and South West of England with a three-week tour of the two regions in March. Do they know it’s Quizmas?… It’s beginning to look a lot like Quizmas…. ‘It’s QUIIZMAAAAAAS’!….. Sorry. Enough bad puns. But hope to see you there!Festive love from Box of Tricks Towers, Adam and Hannah x

WORD:PLAY/NWxSW
One word, six new plays…Following the critically-acclaimed, sell-out success of previous cycles, Box of Tricks launches the first cross-regional Word:Play, championing the next generation of playwriting talent in the North West and South West of England. Six emerging playwrights – three from each region – rise to the unique challenge of writing a 15-minute play inspired by a single word. For this cycle, the word is “division”.Playwrights: Luke Barnes, Ella Greenhill, Natalie McGrath, Becky Prestwich, Bea Roberts and Tom Wainwright. “For a fascinating glance into the world of playwriting, bite-sized theatre is well worth finding the time for” – What’s On Stage (on Word:Play)
