I’m one of the Artistic Directors of Box of Tricks and I’m directing Chip Shop Chips. Following our sold-out tour in 2016, I’m really enjoying revisiting the play and bringing Booth and Sons back to life!
I remember first reading an early draft of Chip Shop Chips and being transported to Booth and Sons. Chippies are such evocative places full of life and drama. Becky has captured that world so beautifully and tells a story full of humour and warmth. She has such an eye for the beauty in the ordinary and what it is to be alive.
As a kid, I remember popping into the chippy on the way home from swimming every so often. Hair still wet, the warmth of the chips wrapped up on your lap and the smell of salt and vinegar. Everyone has memories wrapped up in the humble chippy tea.

I’m really looking forward to taking the show far and wide. This time, we’ll be heading to village halls, libraries, pubs, market halls, community centres across the UK. I live in Chorlton, so I’m particularly excited about seeing the show on my own turf – at the brilliant Edge Arts Centre – at the end of the tour.
Battered sausage, chips, mushy peas and plenty of salt and vinegar.
Chip Shop Chips is on a national tours from the 23rd February to the 21st of April 2018 . Book tickets here.
